Mud Pies and Valentines Candy

Why is it that the day I finally got the house clean - including floors- the kids decide that is was a good day to make mud pies and play in mud holes? oh well- makes for a good blogging picture. If you look close at Jadie you can see that she didnt understand that you are are supposed to PRETEND to eat the mud pie! Where were her brother and sisters on that one?!

I always have these great ideas and pictures in head of what I want something to be - for example, during the last meteor shower I had this picture in my mind of me and the kids outside snuggling in blankets, drinking hot chocolate and watching shooting star after shooting star fly across the dark night. Reality: Bailee was the only one that got out of bed and we were shivering under the blanket, were out of hot chocolate - and saw one star  in 20 minutes. Not exactley what I was picturing.  A couple years ago I tried to make these big heart shaped cookies for the kids ( like my mom always made us) and it turned out horrible -burned cookies, runny frosting-  something  Bailee kindly reminded me of yesterday. Again not exactley what I was picturing in my mind.

So this years Valentines idea looked like this in my mind:  A dining table filled with plates of heart shaped pancakes, whip cream and strawberries on top, glasses full of orage juice, bacon and eggs on the side. Next to the plates are cute little valentines bags with little candy hearts and other yummy candies in them. And tied to the back of each chair is a valentine balloon. Oh yea - there is also sun light streaming through the shutters making everything look perfect. The kids would walk out in their pajamas - all at the same time of course and think that I was the greatest mom in the world.  Kind of pathetic, I know.

So here is what Valentines morning really looked like
After a CRAZY week it occured to me that we had early morning church - without  Jared - and there was no way that I was going to make that beautiful picture in my mind a reality without going insane. So at 11:00pm Sat night after a great Valentines date night with some great friends at RA ( a suschi resturant here) Jared and I ran into walmart. The sales lady looked at us in disbelief after we asked where the Valentine candy was saying that she didnt think there was much left - there wasnt- and got a couple cups and some candy to put in them.

And you know what? The kids still thought that Jared and I were great!

We did try to make heart pancakes after church for lunch but they kept sticking to the heart shaped  cookie cutters and didnt look very much like hearts - we did have bacon though!

***Jared and I really did have a great time on our date night and are looking forward to the next one!!!!!***

just us

So our camera broke a couple weeks ago- actullay is has been breaking for a while and finally died - so I apologize for the blurred pictures. I have been taking them with the still mode on our video camera ( which apparantly isnt very good quality) If anyone has any recomendations for a good but decent priced camera let me know -

These are just a couple of cute moments I wanted to capture

I caught Jadie and JD taking an afternoon nap together - never mind that it is in the middle of the afternoon and she is still in pajamas :)

We are getting more consistant with daily dinner chores and it was Radens turn to do the dishes. I love how he is manly enough to wear my apron so he doesnt get his clothes soaked and not care.

This was yesterday after the kids got home from school - part of Raden's homework is to read every day for 15 min and he gets bored with it  - he is an increadible reader - so he decided to read out loud to his sisters and cousin. And they listened to every word. Too cute!

the REAL story

I was making dinner tonight and heard a scream come from the girls room. You know the kind - where you think "that is not a normal cry - someone is seriously hurt" and I run into the room. Lexi was in there with Jadie and said that Jadie had fallen off the top bunk and landed face first on the floor. Now these are pretty high bunk beds. So I take her to Jared so he can look her over and go back to Lexi to find out how she fell off. I was told that she was leaning over the railing and just fell off. I have seen her do that before - lean over the railing, not fall off - so I said ok and left the room to check on Jadie - who is fine accept for a nice carpet burn on her cheek. Then Lexi comes out and says:

Lexi -" Mom - okay here is the real story - I got off the bunk bed by leaning over the railing and climbing down. Jadie wanted to do it to but I told her no - well i really told her okay - and I was going to catch her. that's the real story"

Me - " So you told Jadie she could get down the same way as you and you were going to catch her?"

Lexi - " yep"

Apparently she missed. Guess whose catching skills we will be working on :)

change

Thanks for all the sweet comments about my vent - everyone needs a good vent now and then and it is always nice to know that you are normal. I've been thinking alot about my life and have finally realized that if change is needed in ones life - the first step is to change yourself.  So here goes to a new me  : )
